#21: Jesus Has Resurrected, Now So Should Your Poker Career!

Alright chaps and chapesses, Easter's just come and gone, hasn't it? All those chocolates and family time—a lovely bit of respite, no doubt. But as the last of the Easter eggs are gobbled up, it’s time to think about another kind of resurrection: the revival of your poker game! If your win rate's been flatter than a pancake or your bankroll's looking a bit worse for wear, now's the perfect moment for a comeback.

Just like Jesus popping back up, it's time for your poker prowess to rise again! We’ve all been there, haven't we? Maybe life got in the way, maybe tilt got the better of you, or perhaps you just fell into some bad habits.

But fear not, because it’s always a good time for a fresh start at the felt. So, let's ditch the old ways and embrace a new, improved poker you. To help you on this path to poker enlightenment, here are 5 BIG NO's—habits you absolutely must leave behind if you want to see your game resurrected:

  1. NO more playing when tilted: This is poker suicide, plain and simple. Feeling steamed after a bad beat? Step away from the screen! Go for a cuppa, take a walk, do anything but hemorrhage chips in a fit of pique. It’s easy to get carried away when tilted, thinking it’s fine to give away your full bankroll after losing a few big pots.

  2. NO ignoring bankroll management: Treating your poker funds like Monopoly money is a recipe for disaster. Know your limits, play within them, and for goodness sake, don't take shots that could wipe you out. Keep reminding yourself that this is REAL money, money you’ve probably slogged your backside off to earn.

  3. NO lazy learning: The game evolves, and if you're not keeping up, you're getting left behind. Stop relying on the same old strategies, as players keep getting smarter. Read articles, watch training videos, and discuss hands—be a student of the game. This applied to all sports, where batters of the 21st century have to learn shots like scoops, paddles, and switch hits—something a Don Bradman would’ve never even thought of back in the day. 4. NO playing distracted: Trying to multi-task while playing poker is a fool's errand. Whether it's the telly, social media, or a noisy household, distractions lead to mistakes. Give the game your undivided attention. If you want to watch the IPL 2025 game, watch it completely before turning to poker, or just sacrifice the game for the night.

  5. NO blaming lady luck: While variance is a part of poker, consistently blaming bad luck for your losses prevents you from identifying and fixing your own leaks. Take responsibility for your game. “No, RNG is NOT RIGGED!”

Now, thinking about the recent Lent period, that 40-day stretch of sacrifice and reflection offers a rather brilliant analogy for our poker ambitions. Why not institute your own ‘poker Lent’? For the next 40 days, commit to sacrificing one detrimental poker habit. Maybe it's over-bluffing, playing too many hands pre-flop, or skipping your warm-up routine. Focus on eliminating that one weakness, and you'll be amazed at the positive impact it can have on your results. You never know; that might lead to a considerable improvement in your play 40 days later.

So, there you have it. Easter 2025 is over now, a time of rebirth and renewal. Let that spirit infuse your poker life. Cast off those hindering habits, dedicate yourself to improvement, and watch your game rise from the ashes. It's time for your poker resurrection!
